Renovations and Remodels

Renovation and Remodel are often used interchangeably, but the two types of projects can be very different.

While both will improve your space, there are some key differences between the two. Let’s walk through the process.

Renovations

Updates the look and feel of a space without changing it’s structure or purpose. It includes things such as appliances, fixtures, flooring and paint. Renovation can include rebuilding (replacing damaged or defective drywall or wood), but typically does not involve structural changes.

Remodeling

Is the process of changing the design and sometimes the functionality of a space. It may involve expansion, reconfiguration or even repurposing of a room. Remodeling is not necessarily a major undertaking. It can involve something as simple as putting a closet and a window into an office to turn it into a bedroom. It also includes more involved projects like expanding a bathroom or kitchen and reconfiguring it’s layout.

ROI (return on investment)

Since remodeling usually involves changing the physical structure of a home air, electrical and plumbing are necessitated making the project more complex and expensive. Renovation will freshen and update a home and will typically provide a more immediate return on investment if a home is sold in the near future. Therefore our initial conversation will involve whether the homeowner sees this as their “forever home” and is willing to spend in order to customize and tailor the space to fit their specific needs, or whether they would like to maximize their ROI and recover the maximum amount possible when the home goes to market.

Style

Before you begin a remodel or renovation you have to know your style. The appliances, countertop material, fixtures, flooring and paint should all complement each specific space as well as the rest of the home. We encourage individuality and the entire home doesn’t need to match, but we pay attention to the details and always aim for continuity throughout the house.

Budget and Timing

Whether you are doing a light renovation or a complete remodel you need to have a plan for budget and time. Our primary goal is to provide you the best quality possible while also providing value with innovation and transparency. The bottom line is that we want to give you the best result for the best price and that is possible through honest dealing and candid communication.

Our secondary goal is to complete the project in the most efficient way, and with as little inconvenience to the client as possible. This means the highest level of cleanliness and respectfulness towards your home possible. It means showing up on time and communicating promptly and directly if there are any changes to the initial timetable. All of these things add up to giving you the best experience possible and intruding on you and your space as little as possible and for no longer than necessary.

Your project should be designed with longevity in mind and whether the project is minor or comprehensive, you should be able to enjoy it for the next decade. That means having a clear and well-communicated plan and getting the details right.
